Japanese Aircraft Online Model Contest 007 - MARK JAHSAN #1

A few pics of two Tamiya Buffaloes in 1/48, a before and after. The Dutch one was done with Aeromaster decals, the Japanese using Rising decals. My photography has not been good lately, these are much more washed out than they appear IRL.

Nice idea to contrast the two marking schemes. The modelling appears rather basic but that's OK in 1/72 (right?) - 4.6

The tail symbol is of the Air Technical Research Laboratory, which was charged by the army to test foreign purchased or captured aircraft. Extra points for what to me is an unusual subject (don't see many Buffalo models). 4.7

The captured Buffalo's certainly did not advance the Japanese technology. Very nice models.

Wind Swords: as we first revealed and proved in issue #11 of our magazine, the tail marking is not of the Air Technical Research Laboratory in Tachikawa as had been wrongly identified by everyone non-Japanese* before but a temporary marking of the local IJAAF unit in Bandoeng, Indonesia, that gathered non-Japanese aircraft, restored them into flyable condition and then sent them to Japan to be evaluated, often but not always in Tachikawa. Once in Japan the marking was almost always overpainted or removed; the overpainted marking is not the result of cencorship as has been suggested by some who don't know the subject.

*in other words, in Japan no historian, researcher or author ever claimed that this marking belonged to Tachikawa. It was always non-Japanese authors, decal and kit makers that said and still keep saying that.

Thanks for the clarification about the tail insignia.

"... but a temporary marking of the local IJAAF unit in Bandoeng, Indonesia...", do you know what the unit was that used this symbol?

You're welcome.
>do you know what the unit was that used this symbol?

The unit that gathered non-Japanese aircraft, restored them into flyable condition and then sent them to Japan to be evaluated. Their exact name is not known (if I knew the exact name of the unit I would have said it).

Very nice beauties!!, but I do have one remark.
The decal '395' should be outboard of the landing gear - on the leading edge in the center of the wing.
that will make'm perfect. 4.7
